SHE FOUND A NEW HOME!! CLICK HERE!!

This morning, as a buddy of mine drove to work via the Williamsburg Bridge, he noticed something: a small gray dog chained to the pedestrian walkway, shivering, completely drenched and half-frozen. As you probably heard, New York had a very big snow storm last night; we’re almost certain her owners left her out in it overnight to die.

001

That same dog is now sleeping comfortably at my feet, well-fed, fully-bathed, and having been given a clean bill of health by the local vet.

005

My friend brought the dog to his office and spent the entire day making calls, not realizing how hard it is to find a home for a pit bull. Something like 1 in 800 rescued pit bulls find homes, and as far as I can tell, no “no-kill” shelter will accept them. I offered to take the dog for the night, since I live closer to my buddy’s office than he does.

002

Since she showed up to my apartment, she’s been a doll. Hasn’t barked once – in fact, I think the only sound I’ve heard was when she began whimpering when I left the room.

She’s young – the vet estimated her to be 1-2 years old. She knows how to sit, seems to understand stay, and is one of those great dogs that stays very close to your side, leash or no leash. Also, she has a gorgeous gray coat, and as you can see, neither her ears nor tail are clipped. Finally, she’s been exceptionally friendly and playful, both with my roommates and all 30+ co-workers at my friend’s office.

003

My friend’s going to take her back tomorrow and try to find her a home, but prospects are not looking hopeful, and eventually he’ll have to take her to a kill shelter. He asked if I’d put up some pictures on my site to see if anyone out there might be interested in taking her in, or perhaps has some advice on what to do with her (we e-mailed a few pit bull rescue groups, but they had little to offer).

Don’t get me wrong – I am fully aware that she’s a pit bull, and that there’s a rep that goes along with the breed. But this one has been well-behaved and quiet, and I just interrupted her sleep to scratch her belly and all she did was kick her foot and wag her tail happily.

She seems like a beautiful pet for the right person, and if you’re at all interested, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at nycscout@gmail.com. I’ll put you in touch with the person who found her and of course, you would certainly be able to meet her before committing to anything.

006

Anyway, I just finished eating a burrito and some nachos, and I noticed the dog watching me, looking for a treat. At first, my “master” instinct kicked in and I told her to go lay down, which she did. But then I broke down and gave her some left-overs.

After all, she just spent the night in one of the worst snow storms of the year, and probably only has a short time left anyway – why not spoil her a little before she’s gone?

PS – If you can do anything to help spread the word via Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr, both me and my new lady friend would be forever in your debt.

That is one beautiful girl. Be very careful to investigate the background of anyone you consider placing her with to be sure they aren’t the type to harm her in dog fights or abuse her in any way. I would take her in a heartbeat if I didn’t already have two dogs.

The temperament of this dog as described here is actually the norm. Nice to see Scout is learning firsthand.

I have a housekeeping business and one of my clients just adopted a pitbull. I will admit I was weary about keeping them as clients. Before going to the house to meet with “Maxi”, (just me and my assistant – the homeowner was at work) I stopped at McDonalds and picked up an order of fries for him. Needless to say, Maxi and I are now best of friends. I no longer bring fries but he is just as happy to see me just for some playtime. He is a beautiful tan and white, solid muscle, bundle of love. He never leaves my side as I go about my duties always looking for a wink and a “goooood boy”! He’s a lover!

If I didn’t already have three at home (2 pits and a beagle) I would drive to NYC and bring her home with me. She’s the spit image of my boy Indy. I hope she finds a good home!

Try Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Kensington (Brooklyn). They are very caring and definitely take pits. They work with a vet who will check the dog out and make sure he’s ready for adoption and will rehabilitate if necessary.

I adopted the most loving beautiful Rottweiler from a non profit group in the New York City area called Waggin’ Train. They often have pit bulls , shepherd and rotty’s as well as mixes of those breeds.Nanette who is one of the main people that run the organization is very helpful. She wrote me everyday for a few days to make sure i was o.k. with my new friend and vice versa. If you are interested in adopting a great dog from great people here is the web site.

I have a pitbull. A wonderful, loving boy who I acquired in a similar manner. A good Samaritan found him in a park when she witnessed him being kicked out of a pick-up truck on a very cold, January day and took him home. She worked and went to grad school and already had an elderly dog, and put out an APB at my neighborhood pet store. He was mine the same day (we had lost a 13-year-old pitbull rescue just a few months earlier). That was 2 years ago last week.

These dogs are loving, wonderful creatures. I wish I could take a picture of mine with his head on my knee while I am typing this and upload it. There ARE pitbull rescues who will take him if you can’t find a home for him. But I am hoping someone opens their heart to him like I did that day.

I tell my boy all the time that it was the luckiest day of MY life!

PLEASE be VERY VERY careful and check the backgrounds of anybody wishing to rescue this beautiful little puppy. Dog fighting is a horrible crime. Unfortunately, there are bad people in this world that still do it. They would jump at the opportunity to this little girl and cause her harm. Of course there are also VERY good people in this world, like yourself. Just be certain that you know the difference when finding her a home. Good Luck and God Bless. Thank’s for being a hero.

Hi, I live in Cape May County NJ, I had a mixed Pit for 15 yrs that I adopted after seeing her on a pet spot thing on the local news, Abbey (at the time the shelter named her Skinny Minnie, she was extremely underweight) was a GREAT dog, before they found her she had been used to “train” pits to fight, when they did find her she had 5 dogs attacking her, chained to a tree, covered with scabs when I got her, took my family a little while to relax and realize what a great dog she was! When we put her down due to illness and age, my toy poodle also around 15 (who I got to give her a friend) was just lost, and needed a friend’ we now have a choc.lab pup but if this dog needs a home I would love to have her, we have a huge fenced in yard and take the Lab (Tucker) for walks every night. No kids, and my dogs are spoiled rotten and this dog needs and deserves that!

I think she is supposed to be with you! I know it is probably not what you intended but she sounds like she is already a part of your life. You are her saint and someday she may be yours! If I were you I would keep her. She is precious! Good Luck!
