I noticed something really cool while driving home through Greenpoint the other night…

001

Some guy painted his truck to look like a subway car!

002

Not only is the train layout pretty darn accurate…

006a

…it’s made even cooler by the awesome 70’s/80’s-style graffiti on its sides!

003

Seriously, how great is this? Both sides of the train are covered in bubble letters…

004a

For comparison, a graffitied train from New York’s past:

Also, they must have used reflective paint, because it looks great with a flash:

005

I love that they even have the little American flag and the train number…

007

Marty was here:

008

Last spotted making stops at Java Street and Provost Street. To whoever did this: awesome work.

PS – If you’re going to add graffiti to this (and it’s definitely asking for it), please please do something classy, as opposed to random quick-the-cops-are-coming scribbles.

Indeed, the real subway car 2010 is actually an R-62A, probably running on the 7. http://www.nycsubway.org/cars/r62.html Nice job!

here’s a better shot of it that I got when it was first painted:

also, that yellow tag at the end was definitely an ugly addition (not by smart crew). They should remove it.

Hey, Scout, looks like the Daily News reads your site (even if they don’t credit you):

    http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2011/02/10/2011-02-10_oldschool_legal_graffiti_makes_appearance_as_a_7train_painted_on_a_delivery_trac.html

That story was featured on NY1’s In the Papers segment this morning, too.

Very cool. I saw something about this on NY1 today – Probably “In The Papers”, as per Karen above. I like your admonition about worthwhile graffiti! LOL. I wonder if taggers read your blog. 🙂

Better not drive that through Astoria – Peter Vallone Jr. (the nabe’s city councilman) is rabid about graffiti!
