nick3My name is Nick Carr, and I’m a professional movie location scout. In my ten years as a scout, I’ve been pretty much everywhere, from the highest rooftops to the deepest subway tunnels, from abandoned ruins to zillion-dollar luxury penthouse apartments.

What always amazes me about the city is how much there is to see if you take the time to look. Every street has a hidden gem or two, and yet they tend to go ignored by the thousands of passersby daily who simply don’t have the time to pay attention.

As it happens, my entire job consists of paying attention. I’ve started this blog to keep a record of what I see.

Since 2005, I’ve worked in New York City, where I produced the website Scouting NY. Check it out here for over 450 articles/10,000 pictures of New York City’s most amazing sights and hidden treasures.

In August 2015, I moved to LA to continue my career while pursuing my dream of becoming a filmmaker.

Let’s go exploring.

    Scout,
Let’s see what you can spot in LA and surprise us as much as you did in NY.

    Hey, Nick.

    Welcome to L.A.!!

I’m having trouble subscribing to the new RSS feed. It comes up as invalid.

    Welcome to LA!

It’s further away from me (in the UK) than NYC, but some places I’d love you to explore date back to the old days of Hollywood, specifically Chaplin’s old studio on the corner of La Brea and Sunset Boulevard (now the Muppets’ studio) and the remains of Keystone Studios (which Wikipedia tells me is at 1712 Glendale Blvd in Echo Park).

    Happy exploring!

Good luck Nick. Have loved SCOUTING NY and have made it a weekly read. From Boston however NYC has always fascinated me and now I hope to come to love SCOUTING LA in the same way.

    Dear Nick,
I will look forward to scoutingla, and I wish you the best in your career, though I am sad you left NYC. I love Scouting NY and have followed it for years. I saw you speak at the Apple store a few years ago. I am sure you will find lots of interesting things in LA–but NYC will miss you.

Wishing you all good things in Hollywood, Nick. Will keep following your adventures on the new site. My brother lives in L.A., so it will be interesting to learn some things about his adopted hometown.

Welcome to SoCal, Nick! I’ve been reading Scouting NY for years and can’t wait to see what you unearth in my hometown that I don’t already know about (I’m a 4th-generation Angeleno).

Hi Nick! Congratulations on your move to Los Angeles! I am looking forward to your posts — I am a former New Yorker who has lived in Los Angeles for 15 years. I think you are going to love it! Thanks for all of the fab NY posts over the years too.
